The Cut

The Orc went into the circle,
Chainsaw in his hand
Sent inside to kill it,
To fulfil what Sauron planned.

Cutting out the Living Heart
From the Circle of the Tree,
Magic retribution
Done live on my T.V.

Or did they try to date it,
By cutting out the slice?
On the world’s most ancient Tree Monument,
That’s not very nice!

Two thirds across the centre
The chainsaw left its mark,
Then cut from top to bottom,
Through root and flesh and bark.

Next the Heart was taken
By our leading Science priests,
Dissecting it for knowledge,
They shared the bloody feast.

First they change the number,
Then they cut the Tree,
Then they save the Circle
To keep it safe for me.

History or Magic,
Now it’s all the same
The circle now is broken
But all know of its name.
